Food
We are choosing what cuisines from which country we do we do, I chose...JAPAN
I love Japanese cuisine because it has so much seafood in it which makes it one of the healthiest cuisines around and it tastes good, it's one of the few food types that nails health and good taste. I have loved it all my life, my favourite food is Temaki Zushi which is where YOU put the rice and fish into the seaweed.

Goal Evaluation
This year I have achieved my goals, these are what My goals were:
Focus on the task at hand
Get Neater Handwriting
Make my writing different styles for different pieces of writing
Work on Maths
I have made strides in handwriting because my handwriting was REALLY messy and I was slow at writing at the start of the year so I have now learnt Cursive Writing with help from Miss MacLennan and SPELD (Specific Learning Disabilities) I am a bit faster than I was at writing at the start of the year and I am using daily so I am improving everyday but in 2015 I will try and increase my speed more at handwriting.
I have tweaked my writing to make it more dramatic, I wanted to make different styles for different pieces and I have done that by looking at different stories and how they are different for different pieces of writing.
I have worked on maths, I understand how numbers below zero work and I am starting to understand decimals, next year I will do a whole lot more improvement in maths.
I have achieved most of my goals this year, I am happy with how I am going, I will make improvement on maths next year, bring on 2015!

AUSTRALIAN CRICKETER PHIL HUGHES DIES
Australian Cricketer Phil Hughes died yesterday after being hit in the neck by a bowl by Aussie bowler Sean Abbott in a domestic One Day- International match In Sydney on Saturday, the Cricket world is in shock.
He was rushed to St Vincents Hospital in Sydney and it was found that the ball hit his Verbal Artery in his neck and crushed the Verbal Artery which caused it to split and for Hughes' brain to bleed. St Vincents Hospital did its best to keep him alive but unfortunately he died.

My Sky-rocketing Technology skills
I came into this Electronics course with an open-mind, I was not skilled at anything involving building and engineering so I thought I was going to struggle, burn my hands with soldering iron, make a fool of myself by mucking up the LEDs and resistors and annoy the mentors by my lack of skills but I 'looked on the bright side of life'. We found out that we were going to make a Miniature Musical Christmas Tree, we were going to be working with resistors, transistors and LEDs.
I started off by looking at the omes of each things, the day got better and better for me as learnt a lot more about engineering, I made progress with soldering and I was interested in everything, I did burn my hand on the speaker when moving the tree to the soldering iron, everyone was happy when we all connected the battery and the thing lit up and played Star Wars music but I believe that the end result is good, but what we learned was much more rewarding.
NASA'S un-manned rocket Antares which was carrying supplies to the International Space Station made a fireball explosion in mid air yesterday. The space craft was carrying 2,267kg of supplies. The raw footage shows a the rocket lifting off the launch pad and exploding, the launch was conducted along the state of Virginia coast, thankfully the rocket didn't come down on the launch pad.

For many Rugby Fans, the ITM Cup a.k.a NPC (as it was formerly known) is a cool competition where you can support your province or team to rugby glory, there is also a competition called The Heartland Championship where all the smaller Rugby unions battle it out.
This is how both Competitions Work: there are two divisions in both championships, The ITM Cup has divisions called the "Premiership" and the "Championship", The Heartland Championship has divisions called, the "Lochore Cup" (named after Sir Brian Lochore) and the "Meads Cup" (named after Sir Colin Meads), whichever team wins the Lower Division in the competitions (Championship and Meads Cup) will go into the higher division (Premiership and Lochore Cup) while whichever team comes last in the Higher Division
(Premiership and Lochore Cup) will head into the lower division
My Team is Canterbury (by the way it is not because they have won 7 ITM Cup titles in a row, it is because "I am Canterbury Born and Bred") and My Heartland Championship Team is South Canterbury
Unfortunately the Crusaders lost to the Waratahs but there is next year and we can have the All Blacks and the ITM Cup to come
Crusaders vs Waratahs
This weekend, Sydney plays host to the 2014 Super Rugby Final and this is a big deal for NSW's Super Rugby Team, The Waratahs, who have NEVER playeed host to a Super Rugby Final while it is also a big deal for their Opposing Team, The Crusaders (My favourite team by the way) who have not won a Super Rugby title since 2008! The Crusaders hold the record for the most Super Rugby titles won which is 7 and they want to an 8th title to the record, (just to give an idea on how long I have waited for this, I was 5 when they last won it and I am now 11, you see the age difference!)
My Dog has a cone on his head and my family call it the "The Cone Of Shame". Here is the inspiration: The Cone Of Shame from Up
Term 3 is a cool term for me, a lot goes on so here is what I am looking forward to this term.
I love skiing because I can go fast down a hill covered in snow, I have to not go too fast or otherwise I will crash into people and lose my ski pass for Ohau Snow Fields, I am VERY careful when skiing.
I love building, tools, wood and metal so this means it will be cool, I'm not exactly good with tools but I would like to have more experience with tools and things so I can be better at woodwork.
You can see how I explained this by looking at this
There are 3 reasons why I want to do German and here they are:
1. I really like the German Football team (for obvious reasons) and when I see them play on tv, I can say football related words.
2. I have been to Germany and I would love to explore its country and culture.
3. The German language sounds quite fun!
I already know some German football words like "ich spiele
Fußall" which means "I play Football"

Spooky Island By Tom Grant
Big boys at school have said to me “on Tree Lake there’s an island called Spooky Island and only big boys can go on Halloween” but I never believed them. Let me introduce myself my name is Kelvin Edward I’m 8. My family and I live in a town called Lincoln. I told my dad Robbie and he said “Let’s go and see” so dad and I went with our speedboat HOOVER. HOOVER is very reliable he has got a camera so he can look along way ahead. There is one big and brainy boy at school called Tony he is friend to little people he showed me where to go on his map he said “it’s in the middle of the lake” I asked him if he and he said “yes” so we went on Saturday morning dad told me he’s working on the Spooky Island power scheme and he also said that he has got a friend living on it called Barry. I’ve met Barry before. He is the dad of my best friend Eddie. He doesn’t live on it but he has got a holiday home on it. But he is also the dad of Tony. My little brother Oscar couldn’t come and he is age 6. He really wanted to come but he just couldn’t. He even kicked the rubbish bin out he was that MAD!!! Eddie came as well as Tony and Eddie were going fishing with Barry. Barry had to generate power through his old generator. Barry told me that Spooky Island was originally called Horwill Island he said “spooky” is just its nickname. It was Tree Lake’s First Island to have power. The lake is unknown to lots of people in Lincoln. The river that gets to it is called Horwill Stream. It’s size is not very big. It will fit little speedboats, kayaks and skiffs (Rowing boats). The island is as big as Stewart Island. When we got there I took my first look at it. It had heaps of trees and a hut called Horwill Hut. I think I know why it got its nickname because if you go for a walk at night at Spooky Island it looks spooky. We explored the island. At one part of the island we found some builders building a power station. Barry said that power needed a different route to Lincoln.
One night when Robbie and Barry were asleep Tony, Eddie and I Creeped out of the hut to see why it’s nickname is Spooky. Well we found it out because there were lots of bats. There were bats everywhere. Tony counted all the bats he said there were 9000 and over of bats. Bats flew towards us we all ran in to the bushes. We decided to go back to bed. In the morning we had to tell the truth the dads said that was alright Tony said that the island is the place to see bats because these ones are scary and are always hungry. He also said this type of bat is called Island bat. So we went back to Lincoln.
The next day was Monday and it was school and we are the tough and big boys now because when we told the big boys and they got scared.

Here is Nike's Winner Stays On ad sequel, This ad is called The Last Game
In 4 days time the FIFA World Cup starts and I can't wait! This is the biggest sporting event in the World. Get ready for 22 Games of Football with 16 Nations playing those games from 13 June-14 July.
Which country I think will win the FIFA World Cup: GERMANY
Germany had a very successful FIFA World Cup in 2010 only getting to the Semi-Finals where they were beaten by the eventual FIFA World Cup 2010 Winners, Spain. The Germans might have a hard Pool, as they face 2 hard Countries- Portugal and USA (not to mention Portugal have Cristiano Ronaldo) but I think they will beat Portugal and USA and the Germans have 1 easy team to beat which is Ghana. They should make it through the round of 16 and the quarter finals but the Germans will need to step up in the semi-finals, make it through the Semis and they would have a reasonable chance of winning.

Royal New Zealand Air Force Boeing 757-200 When I was watching planes take-off and land at Wellington Airport, there happened to be the Royal New Zealand Air Force's Boeing 757-200 Parked up at Wellington Airport and while I was there I saw It taxi out and Take-off. It was Magnificent. The Boeing 757 is the Most Successful aircraft in the world! But before the 757 took-off, one of my dreams came true, The registration, ZK-EAB, on one of Air New Zealand's Beechcraft 1900D's has a bit of special history to me because in December 2008 when I was in Nelson for the Summer holidays, my grandfather and I decided we would make a model Beechcraft 1900D out of wood and I was familiar with doing this because many times when I was up in Nelson with Nana and Grandad I would make a wooden model aircraft, The First wooden aircraft we made was an ATR-72 (the inspiration from Air New Zealand's ATR-72's of course), the second aircraft we made was a Bombardier Q300 (again, the inspiration from Air New Zealand's Bombardier Q300's) and the third aircraft we made was a Boeing 737 with a Koru on the tail, drawn by me to say that this was an Air New Zealand (the tail had to be glued on because it broke off the aircraft and there are big dry drops of glue on the back of the tail) but the fourth aircraft was something special, the Beechcraft 1900D was painted by my Dad, Mr Grant and he put the registration, ZK-EAB and 5 years later, I saw the Real ZK-EAB take-off (Dad did a larger paint job on my brother's Airbus A320 but that's another story).

Term 1 2014 is nearly over and as we look back at Term 1, we look forward to Term 2. The Term started with M1 students (us) getting used to the middle school, It was all a mystery to us at that point, 11 weeks later we are now used to it. I would say that no day is not exciting, there are always things we get to do which are awesome. The Wiki has been awesome
The New Zealand Rocketry Challenge is a challenge for schools where students from a school create a Rocket which would comply with these things:
The Rocket must hold a raw Chicken egg
The Rocket must fly more than 150 metres high
If your Rocket can't do that than you can't participate in the competition. This competition was first ran in 2012, unfortunately thee Competition was not run 2013 because everyone had to come to one place at the same time and there was bad weather but this year it has changed, you can now record your results at your school and send them to the organisers
15/4/14 Miss MacLennan has created a wiki for the Members of the Twizel Area School NZ Rocketry Challenge Team, The Team Members are: Tom, Hayden, Caleb, Sarah and Ellen. Come and see it
This is huge news for Air New Zealand. The first 787-9 Dreamliner been rolled with the paint job and us Aviation fans are excited! This plane was to be delivered to Air New Zealand in June 2010 now four years later the delivery is earlier than expected, Boeing had said Air New Zealand's 787-9 was to be delivered in October 2014 but this plane will be in Air New Zealand's hands in July 2014. The Most Remarkable achievement (Air New Zealand are very happy that they did this) was that Air New Zealand was the first airline to order this type of plane and it is the first time they have been first to order a type of plane, something that Kiwis can be proud of. The registration Code is ZK-NZ so you expect registrations like ZK-NZE, ZK-NZL etc. This Is the Amazing Plane.

Arts in Action Week
10/4/14
Arts in Action week is co-ordinated by our Art teacher, Mrs Frost and what we do is we have three or more days experience with different people who are artists who do different types of art and come in to teach us (the students) their passion. This year the art type is music and
we have the opportunity to go and work with some amazing musicians: singer/songwriters Jed and Hera as well as some other Musicians, we were allowed to go or not, I have finished my work with Jed and Hera and I will treasure that time I had with them, we had the choice to do drums with Jed or do singing with Hera, I picked singing with Hera. Our two day session started with a song done by the singers and drummers together with no instruments, the song about a girl leaving her hometown, soon after the drummers went with Jed and Hera split the singers into group to make up our own group song, I was with Hayden, Olivia and Mackenzie, we worked on our song until it was finished in period 2a soon after we were assigned with drummer who were Sam, Josh (from M2) and Nikau (from M2) who worked out the beat for the song, once they had done that we had our first session practicing with the microphones but there was one problem. There were only three microphones, so Olivia and I shared a microphone. Finally it came to the performance in front of three quarters of the school, we played well. The song was about a women stargazing. THANKS JED AND HERA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Chiefs started with a hiss and a roar with former Crusader Robbie Fruean scoring the first try in the first 10 minutes, barging over two Crusaders players to score. In the second half Crusader Tyler Bleyendaal missed 5 out of 5 penalties, Aaron Cruden kicked the resulting penalty. Sam Whitelock played some good Rugby when he got the ball from a line out, got down and scored. Tom Taylor kicked a penalty which made the score 10-11. In the final minutes the Crusaders were on the attack when the ball was intercepted into the hands of Chief, James Lowe who scored. Final score 18-10

The Crusaders hold the record for the most Super Rugby titles won which is 7 and they want to an 8th title to the record, (just to give an idea on how long I have waited for this, I was 5 when they last won it and I am now 11, you see the age difference!)My Dog has a cone on his head and my family call it the "The Cone Of Shame".

Hi Tom ... I am sure you have heaps of resources on Erebus, but here is another useful link ;
http://www.nzhistory.net.nz/media_gallery/tid/1711This is a wee story I wrote when I was 7, I thought it was quite cool at that point but now I look at it and I think I have come a long way since then, It was going to have chapters but it didn't end up that way
Spooky IslandBy Tom Grant

The FIFA World Cup is humming along, Germany vs Portugal is at 4am Tuesday, I think The Germans will win 4-3. GO GERMANY!!!!!!!!!!!!!
==

Royal New Zealand Air Force Boeing 757-200
When I was watching planes take-off and land at Wellington Airport, there happened to be the Royal New Zealand Air Force's Boeing 757-200 Parked up at Wellington Airport and while I was there I saw It taxi out and Take-off.
This is the RNZAF's 75 year anniversary celebratory video. They hit the 75 anniversary mark in 2012
Term 1 2014 is nearly over and as we look back at Term 1, we look forward to Term 2.
Come and see it
http://tasrocket2014.wikispaces.com/This is huge news for Air New Zealand.
10/4/14Arts in Action week is co-ordinated by our Art teacher, Mrs Frost and what we do is we have three or more days experience with different people who are artists who do different types of art and come in to teach us (the students) their passion.
Cricket
I have a rival sport for Rugby the I love. I love Cricket. I want to not just be an Air Force Pilot when I am an Adult, I want to also play Cricket for New Zealand. I have watched Cricket heaps of times, I like it as my joint favourite sport to Rugby because it's fun, It's easier than Rugby and you can use your arms more freely.

Crusaders vs Chiefs Report
Well it was a quick comeback for the Chiefs in this match, the Chiefs prevailing 18-10 over the home side.
